HAURAKI TO THE RESCUE

WRECK OF INDIAN HARBOUR With the arrival of the Union Company's motor-ship Hauraki at Auckland yesterday comes further news of the wreck of the Indian Harbour. As the motor-ship was proceeding from Vancouver to San Francisco she picked up signals of distress of the Indian Harbour, which had been driven ashore about 200 miles from ’Frisco. The Hauraki went to the rescue, but was unable to render any assistance, because of the hard gale. She transmitted frequent reports of the condition of the stranded vessel to San Francisco and a tug was despatched from port to the scene of the wreck When the tug arrived the Hauraki continued on her voyage. The crew of the Indian Harbour were eventually rescued, but the stranded steamer had to be abandoned as a total wreck.
