Handley, on a Rex-Acme machine, won the lightweight Tourist Trophy in 4hr lOmin His average speed was 63.4 miles an hour, which is a record. YACHTING SUPPORTERS PONSONBY CLUB ENTERTAINS “The club is fortunate at having so many good supporters who always give cheerfully,” said Mr. C. J. Collings in proposing the toast to the Wicepresidents and Donors of Trophies.” who were the guests of honour at the Ponsonby Cruising Club’s smoke concert last night. The function, which was held in the clubhouse at St. Mary’s Bay was attended by a large number of members and visitors from other clubs. The commodore, Mr. W. S. Goodison, presided. A tribute to the help given to yachting interests by local bodies paid by Mr. E. H. Northcroft, who observed that yachtsmen had a great deal for which to thank the City Council and the Harbour Board. “Of course,” added Mr. Northcroft, “if the members of local bodies do not do what they can to promote yachting, they would be failing in their duties.” Messrs. J. Calvert, C. Masse, C. Turner, A. Colquhoun, A. Dobbs. J. Meldrum, E. Austin, A. Tupp, E. Smith, L. Bickerton and W. Purcell (accompanist) contributed to a very enjoyable musical programme during the evening.
