BREACH OF PROBATION

LEADS TO GAOL MOTORIST LOSES LICENCE (Special to THE SUN.) WANGANUI, Thursday. Frederick Lind appeared on remand in Court to-day for a breach of probation at Auckland and failing to pay certain money ordered to be paid by the court there. Tie had been found guilty of being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car, with driving in a reckless manner in the Avenue. The probation officer had nothing to say in favour of the accused, who came from Auckland with a woman whom he was maintaining, and at the s;.me time had failed to maintain his wife and family. For a breach of probation he was sentenced to three months’ hard labour *nd for being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car was fined .£25, in default three months’ imprisonment. His licence to drive was cancelled for three years, Mr. J. S. Barton, S.M., remarking that lie was Incapable of being in charge of a car, and had no sense of the rights of other users of the road.

On a by-law charge of speeding in the Avenue on another occasion, the magistrate said he would not inflict further punishment.
