Mystery in Harbour
STRANGE WAYS OF SCOW MOVES DURING NIGHT Last night the scow Pahiki was lying peacefully alongside the North Wall. This morning she was found piled up on the shore at Devonport. How the vessel moved during the night without the knowledge of the owners is the problem which confronts the police authorities at present. Early ferry travellers this morning saw the scow ashore on the rocks near the Devonport Boating Club’s premises. They informed the owners, Messrs. McCalum Bros., shingle merchants, and men were sent over to investigate. They succeeded in refloating the scow and had her towed back to Auckland.
The Pahiki has been engaged for some time shipping shingle from northern ports to Auckland for Messrs. McCaluum Brothrs. The police are investigating the matter, but no light has boon thrown on the problem yet.
