A SURREPTITIOUS “SPOT”
Charges of being found on the licensed premises of the Waikato Hotel at Hamilton after hours were preferred against Leonard W. Faville and Robert G. Lewis to-day before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M. Evidence was given that the two defendants were followed into the hotel, where Faville was found standing at the bar and Lewis in the passage carrying a jug of milk. When questioned Faville said he was canvassing for an order and Lewis stated he had gone in for a cup of tea. Constable Sutton deposed to seeing two empty glasses on the counter. They had dregs in the bottom, but he did not examine them closely. After hearing further evidence the magistrate dismissed both cases.
E. R. Blackwell was charged with serving liquor after hours, arising out of the same set of circumstances, and after the case had been partly heard it was adjourned.
