GRATEFUL SIR ARCHIBALD

Sir Archibald Boyd-Carpentar, M.P., son of the famous Bishop of Ripon, who was Clerk of the Bedchamber to Queen Victoria, and who is now leading the British Motor Delegation in New Zealand, is particularly grateful to Aucklanders. “I am so pleased you have my name correctly,” the member for Coventry informed Auckland motor-traders at a luncheon at the Grand Hotel yesterday. “Since I left England some months ago,” explained Sir Archibald, “I have run the gamut of all the apostles.” He had been called John and James. On one occasion he had even been referred to as “Sir Benjamin.” (Laughter.) Sir Archibald Boyd-Carpenter regards the Aucklanders’ correct description of him as a good omen. He confessed that he was going to try his luck on “Sir Archie” at Ellerslie to-morrow!
