MAIL BY THE TON
BUSY POST OFFICE LARGE QUANTITIES IN AND OUT Letters, papers and parcels by the ton have arrived in Auckland this week from overseas. 1 It has been a busy week for the Post Office people, and will continue to be busy until Saturday. Yesterday 397 bags of Australian and English mail arrived by the Maunganui and were sorted and distributed very quickly. As the vessel has been delayed until 5 o’clock this afternoon, the time for sailing for Vancouver, a large quantity of extra mail is being posted to-day, which otherwise would have had to wait until the next outward sailing. To-morrow morning 90 bags of mail will arrive from Wellington from the Marama, 40 bags of American mail from San Francisco also via Wellington, and 490 -bags of papers and what is known as second-class mail. On Thursday morning 80 bags of papers and packages ex the Marama will arrive from Wellington. The Maheno will sail on Friday with outward mail and late on Saturday there will be another English mail by one of the overseas steamers.
