LIFEBOAT TESTED FULL OF WATER
Tests with the first twin-screw lifeboat have been carried out at Cowes (Isle of Wight). The engine room was flooded with fresh water up to the outside waterlevel, the water weighing 5J tons, the equivalent of S 3 men. Then, with 17 men on board, the lifeboat was taken to sea, and for two hours ran at her full speed with the water washing heavily over and around the two motors of 40 h.p. each. Next day the lifeboat was taken out in a southerly gale, with a very heavy sea, and ran at full speed for eight hours.
