RIDER BADLY HURT
BRENNAN STILL IN HOSPITAL The Auckland Athletic and Cycling Club’s 18-mile relay race on Saturday was marred by a bad accident. The race itself was spoiled through Lownes, liickman and Brennan falling. The lastnamed. though falling into soft mud on the road side, sustained a nasty scalp wound on the head, by coming into contact with some sharp object. He was taken to the hospital, and so far, has been unable to leave it. The race was won by White’s team, which beat Henderson’s by a narrowmargin. Healey’s team was a good third. The time was 42min 12sec. White has struck his best form at present, as he practically beat Henderson, one of the scratch division off the mark. There should be more than one race come “Putty’s” way this season. A CONSISTENT PERFORMER The most consistent rider in the A.A. and C.C. is Jim Henderson. He is there every Saturday, and does more than his bit, when it comes to the back men pacing each other. A w in would do this popular rider a good turn, by coming his way. Healey, who finished third in the final round of the relay, is finishing in a place very consistently, in the A.A. and C.C. races. He is sure to place another race or two to his credit this season.
The Manukau Club is having a club run over the 50-mile Clevedon course on June 3, w'lien it will finally decide if it is a suitable course for racing. J. Brunier, riding a 186 gear, on the Montelury motor racing speedway, broke the world’s record for amateurs for the 6ft minutes. He covered the amazing distance of 75 miles 280 yards in the hour. This time, though great is three miles short of the professional record.
