EMPIRE DAY

ALBERT PARK CEREMONY Precisely at 12 o’clock to-day members of the Victoria League gathered round the memorial to Queen Victoria in Albert Park to pay homage and respect. A beautiful wreath of flowers surmounted with fern leaves, was placed at the foot of the memorial by Mrs. Isaacs. Mr. G. L. Garland, a life member of the league and also a vice-president, addressed the members, speaking of the great debt of gratitude owed by all to Queen Victoria. “It is through her that the Empire stands as it is,” he said. “She built her house on four great corner stones: Justice, Truth, Honour and Liberty. Victoria has handed these four great words down to us and it is for us to uphold the precious heritage."
