CORDIAL MEETING

GREETS LABOUR MEMBER MR. LEE IN WHANGAREI (From Our Own Correspondent .) WHANGAREI, To-day. The Mayor, Mr. L. J. Brake, presided over a fair attendance at Mr. J .A. Dee's meeting last night. The speaker’s mission was to reply to the speeches of Mr. Coates and Mr. Young rather than traverse the Labour programme. He handled capably finance, land settlement, dairy control and naval defence on the lines of his Dargaville meeting. He made witty play on the “Coates and Confidence’’ slogan, and unmercifully tore to pieces the advertising campaign of the last election. He commented on the significance of the inauguration of this campaign, considering the return to New Zealand of Mr. Frank Goldberg. Colonel Allen Bell, who was among the audience, was congratulated, amid delighted laughter, upon coming along to drink wisdom from Labour’s fountain. Ratting had hitherto been looked on with disfavour, but thousands next election must be forgiven for changing their coats.

A motion of thanks to Mr. Lee and confidence in the Labour Party was carried unanimously with long applause.
