Appointment of New Secretary
A. AND P. SOCIETY LEGAL ACTION POSSIBLE THE executive of the Auckland Metropolitan Agricultural and Pastoral Association has replaced the secretary, Mr. H. D. Stanley. Mr. W. F. O’Donnell, of Waipukurau. Hawke's Bay, has been appointed in his stead, at a salary of £6OO per annum. It is possible that legal action will be instituted on Mi-. Stanley’s behalf on the grounds of alleged irregularities in procedure by the association. The 120 applicants for the position were reduced to three by a committee of the association and these attended the meeting of the executive on Friday afternoon. When the meeting opened it was stated that Mr. Stanley had been notified of the termination of his engagement. It was clearly indicated that no suggestion of any improper action on his part was entertained by any member of the executive. The three applicants, Mr. W. Pascoe, of Auckland, Mr. G. E. Fowler, secre-tary-manager of the Hawke’s Bay Power Board, and Mr. W. F. O’Donnell, a master at the District High School, Waipukurau, were then interviewed. Before the ballot for the selection 10 members of the executive left the room and the voting resulted in Mr. O’Donnell being selected by seven votes to six.
Mr. O’Donnell will take up his duties early in July. He is 42 years of age and is at present on the teaching staff of the Waipukurau District High School. He was secretary for the Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ Union for IS months and is now secretary for the Waipukurau Agricultural and Pastoral Association.
