CITY AUCTION VALUES LEMONS IN POOR DEMAND An average demand for all classes of fruit and garden produce was registered at the city auction marts this morning, when most lines were well supplied. FRUIT Apples are firm at late rates, and good dessert pears are in strong demand. Repacked bananas are in short supply, and the only Island oranges available are small consignments arriving from time to time ex Wellington. Lemons, in plentiful supply, are meeting with a poor demand. Tomatoes, in shorter supply, are increasing in value, though the demand with the winter months is falling off. Prices range as follow: Apples, from 4s for second grade Pride of Australia to 9s for best Delicious; pears, from 4s for low grade Keiffers to 11s for Winter Coles; Cape gooseberries, 4ld to 5d per lb; hothouse tomaLate commercial reports from other exchanges will be found on page 9. toes, 12s to 16s a box; outdoor tomatoes, first grade 6s to 11s; hothouse grapes, 2s to 2s 6d a lb; Sydney grapes, 16s to ISs; passions, 3s to 6s; persimmons, 2s 6d to ss; repacked bananas, 2Ss to 30s; Island oranges, 24s to 25s 6d; local lemons, 5s to 9s. VEGETABLES Most lines of field and garden produce continue in good supply. with quotations practically unchanged. Prices this morning ranged as follow : Potatoes, Southern 6s 6d to 7s cwt, local 2s 6d to 3s 6d a bag; kumeras, 2s to 4s a bag; onions, best quality 5s to 6s a cwt, others Is 9d to 2s 6d a cwt; swedes, Is to 2s a bag; peas, Ss to 10s a bag; beans, Ss a bag; pumpkins, best 7s to Ss cwt, others 3s to 4s cwt; cabbages, 3s to 6s bag; cauliflowers, 6s to 15s 6d a sack; rhubarb, 2s to 3s per dozen bundles; marrows, Is to 2s per dozen; leeks, 3d to 5d a bundle; spring onions, 3d to 6d bundle; celery, best Is to 2s 6d bundle; lettuce. Is 6d to 3s 6d a case. POULTRY The usual Tuesday penning of poultry came forward, table birds predominating. Prices range as follow: — Prime cockerels, heavy 6s to 7s 3d. light 3s 6d to ss: fat roosters, heavy 3s to 3s 6d, light 2s 6d to 3s; fat hens, heavy 3s to 4s, light 2s 6d to 3s; young ducks, Runners 4s 6d to 5s 6d; young drakes, prime 3s to 4s; old ducks and drakes, 2s 6d to 3s 6d; Black Orpington pullets, about to lay, 3s to 6s 9d; White Leghorn pullets, about to lay, 6s to 7s.
