BUTTER IN LONDON
HOPES FOR NEW SEASON OLD STOCKS CLEARED It is anticipated that when the new season opens, New Zealand dairy produce will be sold on the English market in the best circumstances. Yesterday a statement was made by Mr. T. C. Brash, secretary of the Dairy Produce Control Board, that several dairy companies contemplated selling their May and June outputs of butter at from Is 3d upwards to New Zealand buyers. Mr. W. Grounds, chairman of the board, said last evening that it was quite possible that such transactions were being effected and that the board would realise a figure to warrant them. It was expected that there would be no stale butter left over in London in the spring. The cause of the recent rise in the price of New Zealand produce at Home was due to a certain extent to the fact that the board had reduced its weekly quota of 90,000 boxes of butter and 45,000 crates of cheese. He did not state the figures to which the quota had been reduced.
