A Last Look Round
Wellington Rugby Selector. —The Wellington Rugby Union decided to revert to a sole selector for representative teams in place of three, and appointed Mr. J. N. Millard. Butcher’s Boy Injured. —Mr. A Lynch, an employee of S. Burgess, butcher, at Opotiki. was driving a butcher’s cart when the horse stumbled. Lynch and another lad were both thrown to the road. Lynch received a broken wrist. Rugby Conference The annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union will open in Wellington tomorrow. Messrs. H. Frost and K. Casey, the Auckland Rugby Union’s delegates, left for Wellington last night. Road Classifications. —At the last meeting of the Papatoetoe Town Board it was decided to make the following classifications of roads for heavy traffi< purposes:—First-class. Great South Road: second. Station Road East, Shirley and Kolman Roads. Papatoetoe Values. —The price said to have been paid by the Auckland Power Board, £I,OOO, for the section in Papatoetoe acquired for the erection of showrooms and offices, gives some idea of the increase in values in the urban areas of Auckland. About three years ago this section was on offer at £4OO, and the price of the transaction works out at about £25 per foot. Ready Cash Wanted* —An idea of the demand that exists for ready cash is illustrated by the experience of a man in Wellington who wished to buy a house. He advertised in a newspaper. offering a deposit of £3OO. and on the. day on which the advertisement appeared he received 27 applications. This was followed on subsequent days by a general stream of applications from more outlying districts.
