TAKAPUNA ELECTION CAMPAIGN OPENS
“UNITED BOROUGH” TICKET
“If we let the steamers go. our fares will be at least doubled. If the party opposing the present council is returned the steamers will be sold within the next 24 hours,” said Mr. J. D. Morison, Mayor of Takapuna, when he opened his campaign at Milford last night. “Sooner or later Takapuna will have to draw on Taupo,” he said, referring to the borough’s water supply. The matter had however been deferred until the Royal Commission had determined the best source of supply. Replying to criticism of the council’s policy, Mr. Morison told his hearers that their main road was the best concreted thoroughfare in the Dominion. Being reinforced it would stand for the next 50 years, he said. Members of the “United Borough” ticket also addressed the meeting, Mr. O. Moller explaining that their object was to see that every part of the borough received representation.
