Received 10.50 a.m. The tornadoes and cloudbursts on Tuesday evening and Wednesday added to the toll of over a score of lives. The damage caused by floods during the past week has not yet been estimated. A huge area of the Middle, Western, and Southern States drained into the Mississippi and tributaries. Thousands have been driven from their homes between Illinois and the Gulf of Mexico, and millions of acres of farm lands are inundated. Rescue workers reported that at least 11 were killed when the “twister” swept south-eastern Choctaw county and Oklahoma. Meagre reports from the seven stricken counties of Illinois said that four were dead and three missing. Many are injured. The schoolhouse at Centreville collapsed and Miss Anna Keller, the teacher, was killed. Three of 25 pupils are missing.—A. and N.Z.—Sun.
