A PEEVISH PRISONER “WASN’T GIVEN A VOICE” William Murray Aitken got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning. The fact of it being a prison bed didn’t improve matters either. When he appeared in the dock in the Police Court this morning he was decidedly peevish. While the charges—found drunk in Hobson Street yesterday, and using obscene language —were being read out to him he glowered at the bench. “Supreme Court,” he snapped, when asked to choose where he should be dealt with on the last charge. “I wasn t given a voice” —Nature endowed him with a very good one to judge from his tone —he growled. “And I’m going to have a voice!” . “Take him away,” ordered Mr. Hunt, and two constables dragged the expostulating Aitken back to the prisoners room Co cool off a bit. 11 is voice made itself heard again in angry protests, while the other cases were proceeding. Later in the morning Aitken’s name was called again and he strode into the dock as truculent as ever. . _ “Remanded till the 20th,” said the bench. “What!” snapped the accused. “Stand down.” “1 ditln’t hear what was said.
