COUNCIL MEETS SEVERAL MORE GIFTS The Council of the Auckland University College met yesterday, the Hon. George Fowlds presiding. It was resolved to grant the use of the college hall to the Auckland Institute and Museum for its course of six monthly lectures. The use of the hall was also granted for a lecture on townplanning by Mr. E. V. Blake and Mr. R. A. Lippincott. The Auckland branch of the New Zealand Institute of Architects was allowed the use of the architecture lecture room for its general meetings.
The schedule of Workers’ Educational Association tutorial classes which, owing to shortness of time, lrad to be printed without the council’s formal sanction, was presented and approved. A report upon 15 months’ biological studies in Australia, North and South America, Asia and Europe, undertaken during his sabbatical year, was submitted by Professor J. C. SperrinJohnson. The president remarked that the professor’s tour would undoubtedly yield valuable results to his students. It was mentioned that a number of old volumes of the classics from the library of the late Dr. L. K. Hagen, of Devonport, had been presented to the college library by his widow. It was also reported that the School of Forestry had received a number ol specimens and photographs from the United States Department of Agriculture and of treated timbers from Mr. G. A. Gammon, of Epsom. The council resolved to thank the donors. The professorial board reported that it had decided to adopt the abolition of terms examinations for exempted students as from 1927. The board recommended that an exemption fee of £3 3s, as suggested by the New Zealand University Council, should be imposed. This was aereeff to-
