Grey Lynn Bowlers.—The Grey Lynn Bowlins Club will hold an all-day bowling pairs tournament on Good Friday. Britain and Spain.—A supplementary convention, revising the Anglo-Spanish Commercial Treaty, which has been under negotiation in London, was signed yesterday. South Australian Ministry.—The Premier of South Australia, Mr. L. L. Hill, and the members of his Cabinet, have resigned. The new Cabinet which has been formed by Mr. R. L. Butler will be sworn in to-morrow. Unregistered Motor-Car.—For using an unregistered motor-car on the road to Rotorua on February 27 a motorist was fined £2 with costs 10s at the Te Awamutu Magistrate’s Court on Thursday morning. Stopping the Express.—The Pukekohe Chamber of Commerce has been informed that the question of stopping a Main Trunk express at that town is still under consideration by the Railway Department. Railway Crossing Regulations.— Passing over railway crossings when the line was not clear cost Thomas Pilling Duckworth £4 Is in the Police Court this morning. Clarence Roy Melgren’s contribution for the same offence was £2 19s.
A Farmer’s Interest. —A movement ia on toot in the Morrinsville district to get the branches of the Farmers’ Union at Tatuanui, Motunmoho and Kiwitahi to link up with Morrinsville as a centre. Motumaoho has decided to fall in with the suggestion.
Raising Hall Funds.— A most enjoyable concert was presented by Mr. Bert Hay and his concert party at Mangapeko Had on Monday night. The proceeds were to help defray the debt on the hall and resulted in the sum of £4O being realised.
Wairoa Fire. —The insurances on the picture theatre destroyed by fire at Wairoa were: Building (New Zealand Insurance Company), £750; cinema plant, scats, engines, dynamo, films, etc., £350 (New Zealand) £9OO, (Guardian). £9OO (State Office).
Half-holiday Poll.— A poll is to be takf'ii at Morrinsville on the half-holi-day question. For the past two years Wednesday has been observed, but recently the Borough Council by a bare majority decided in favour of Saturday half-holiday. A petition for a poll was subsequently presented and granted.
Infected Sheep.— Archibald Emmett, a dealer at Ohaupo, was prosecuted by Inspector Melrose at the Te Awamut i Court on Thursday for exposing lice-infected sheep at the Te Awamutu saleyards on March 4, He was fined £1 with costs 12s. Another dealer, J. B. Patterson, was also charged with A similar offence. Fined £ 1 and costs. Progressive Society. —The Papatoetoe Literary and Debating Society's season opens shortly, when it is intended to stage “As You Like It,” in costume. The society usually holds its meetings in the Methodist’s Hall, Kolmar Road, but on this occasion it is intended to engage the Town Hall to enable the staging to be given to advantage. The Contract System. —At a meeting of the Pukekohe Chamber of Commerce last night it was decided to ask the borough council, before again submitting sewerage loan proposals to the ratepayers, to affirm the principle of letting the work in one or more large contracts, the number not to exceed three. It was stated that if contracts were let for the work, ratepayers would know' w'hether or not it could be completed within the amount of the loan. Chinaman Fined.— “ They found more than the gun, they found the place fitted up for something else,” said Edwards in the Police Court tnis morning, referring to the occasion when the detectives raided the Premises of Wong Wei, in Hobson street. Wei was charged with-tailing tt' register the shotgun, and was fined *2, and costs 13s. Bequests to Church. —Bequests to the Presbyterian Church are contained in the wfill of the late Mary Ann Reynolds, of Pukekohe. The sum of £2OO is to be held in trust by the Public Trustee in perpetuity, <md the income is to be paid to the New’ Zealand Presbyterian Foreign Missions. The income from a sum of £IOO is to be Paid to St. James’ Sunday School. Pukekohe.
