A serious fire broke out in Woolwich Arsenal close to the danger zone where thousands of tons of high explosive shells, grenades and detonators were stored. There was sufficient explosive to destroy South London. The flames were visible for miles around and many mothers woke their children, taking them to Plumstead ommon for afety. There they watched the blaze, but fortunately the fire wa confined to the toreroom for gas masks and the oil tanks nearby. It was necessary to flood the powder magazines as a precaution.—Sun.
