HORTICULTURE
INSTITUTE MEETING Mr. T. L. Lancaster presided at the executive meeting of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture held this week. The delay of the education committee of the institute in setting the scheme of horticultural diplomas in operation was the subject of strong comment. It was ultimately decided to take preliminary steps authorising the establishment of the diploma. The Auckland City Council wrote advising the appointment of two cadets to study for the diploma. Professors J. C. Sperrin-Johnson and W. Riddet and Messrs. W. S. Hill, T. L. Lancaster and G. Archy were appointed a sub-committee to consider the syllabus laid down for the diploma examination. A meeting of daffodil growers had been held, when the regulations for the New Zealand daffodil list and the narcissi committee had been considered, and a committee had been elected to assist. The actions of the secretary and Mr. Carr Rollett, in arranging for a supply oL native flowers for the New Zealand wreath to be placed on the cenotaph in London were approved. It was also decided to thank the children of the Titirangi School for the collection of the flowers.
