VtJted Against Increase. —The fiv councillors who voted last nigh against the increase in the tram fare were Messrs. Eady, Phelan, Brinsdon Bloodworth and Warnock. Presents to Zane Grey.—Presentation of a scenic photograph of L’repukapuku. Bay of Islands, was madi to-day to Mr. Zane Grey by Mr. A. S Blackie, on behalf of the ‘ Zane Gre> Fishing Club.” Municipal Elections. —A largelyattended meeting of the Te Awarauu Ratepayers' Association took place or Wednesday evening. The president Mr. H. Andrew, presided. Matter? in connection with the nominating suitable persons for position of mayoi and councillors were considered. Stranded Steamer. —The small steamer Wetere, stranded on the beach jus north of the Mokau River, near New Plymouth, on Wednesday morning, i? being moved back to the water. Then is still 150 feet between her and th* river channel. A calmer sea ha: made the position more satisfactory than previously. Prohibition Orders Broken. —"Th< order is good all over New Zea land,” Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., remarket this morning, when he fined Andrew Wilson £l, and 14s costs, for a breach of a prohibition order made against him at Opotiki three months ago. The same offence, committed at Devonport early last month, cost Frederick W. McKearnev just a shilling less. Maintenance of Father. —‘‘It is regrettable that two sons could not mak« some Contribution toward the maintenance of their father,” said Mr. W. R McKean, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court this morning when lefusing ai order for maintenance brought by th« mother of the men. “The defendants have the primary responsibility ol their own wives and children, and or the evidence I am not justified ii: making any order.” The case was on< in which, it was said, the father had been incapacitated through an accident and would not be in receipt of any pension for some time. Claim for Damages. —ln November 1925, John P. Robinson, of Kawhia brought his motor-car to the garage ol W. F. Rushton and Co., Auckland, foi the purpose of effecting a sale or exchange for a car more suitable foi country roads. While in the care of the company an employee borrowed the machine and damaged it. The sequel was heard in the Supreme Court this morning, before Mr. Justice Stringer, when Robinson (Mr. Hollings) sought to recover from the defendant company (Mr. Goldstine) the sum of £2OB for damage and depreciation to the motor-car. Lengthy evidence is being called on each side and the case is proceeding.
