James Allen presided, and the Hons, MacDonald, Russell, Myers, and McNab were also present. It was contended by the deputation that the tax pressed heavily and inequitably upon the small dairy farm-

Messrs Allen, MacDonald, Myers, and Russell replied. Mr MacDonald, as Minister of Agriculture, quoted figures showing that the butter producers had been getting considerable more than pre-wai iates, and said that after paying the tax they were receiving 5d per lb ™ ore under present conditions.
