MARRIAGE BY PROXY. APPROVAL OF FRENCH SYSTEM (Received 11.20 a.m.) Melbourne, November 28. Senator Pearce has expressed approval of the suggestion made in the State Parliament that the Government should adopt the French system of providing for marriage by proxy ot soldiers at the front to young women ; whom they had promised to wed. He | said letters in possession of the He .fence Department showed that such !arrangements were very necessaix.
