ENEMY ACTIVELY PRESSED. London, September 3. General Smuts on Saturday reported that the pursuit of the enemy is being actively pressed in the Ulguru mountains. Despite the heavy rainfall destroying bridges and roads they frustrated the enemy’s intention to offer a prolonged insistence with a view to gaining time for the organisation of their eventual retreat further southward. Our mounteds westward of the mountains are advancing towards Mahalana and Kissuki, taking prisoner many small parties, and capturing one gun. Colonel Van dor Venter’s strong detachments are moving on Ivilossi. Southward General Northey’s column is advancing on Iringa; General Cupembe is advancing eastwards towards Mahenge upon the coast. A column from Bagamojo is approaching Daraessalau, co-operating with the navy.
