IRELAND.
— MR LLOYD GEORGE'S SCHEME. tJNIXfiD PBKBB ASSOCIATION. London, Juno 22. Archbishop Loguc (Armagh), Bishops McHugh (Derry), Mcllory (Down and Connor), McKenna (Clogher), and Mulhean (Waterford) have pronounced against Mr Lloyd George’s proposals. Archbishop Logue considers that it would be infinitely better to remain another fifty years under English rule lhan l-o accept the proposals. Mr Devlin, in a powerful manifesto, urges the acceptance of the proposals. He says it is a God-given chance, and believes tin; outstanding counties will inevitably be drawn under Home Rule by force of circumstances. The Irish Unionist Alliance in Dublin passed a resolution against the proposals, among other things considering them a concession to the recent rebellion.
j The 'l'imes’ correspondent at Dublin states that Cardinal Logue defended ( the priesthood against the accusations in connection with the rebellion. Ho did not believe that as a general body, they sympathised with Sinn Feinism, and ho accused the authorities of muddling.
In the House of Commons, Mr Asquith announced that Lord Wimborne’s resignation as Viceroy of Ireland had been accepted.
