General Sir Dpuglas Haig reports: The enemy exploded an exceptionally large mine nt Givenchy, jgst north of La liassee on Thursday morning and entered oifr trenches, on a narrow front. Tlie Welsh Fusiliers very gallantly and successfully counter-attack-ed, driving the enemy out, and inflicting heavy losses. Our casualties, considering the siz;e of the mine, were comparatively light. We exploded a mine near Hohenzollern, and have occupied the lip of the crater.

Jn Belgium, the Allies, by their destructive lire, destroyed enemy organisation among theidiiups., ,+ iri • In the Champagne district yesterday evening, following on bombardment between Maison do Champagne and Mont Tetu, three German attacks on a front of 1200 metres were repulsed 'by grenade and curtain fire. Some fractions of the enemy at a third attempt penetrated some advanced elements, but were driven out at the point of the bayonet. During the night several German coup do mains at small posts north-east of Butte de Masnil were repulsed. On the left of the Meuse, the Germans renewed their attempts in the region of Hill 304. Two grenade attacks failed against mitrailleuse fire. .During the night, there was lively fusilade in Avocourt Wood, and at Mort Homme. There was intense bombardment at Esncs and Chattancourt.

On the right bank of the Meuse, there has been considerable artillerying on the whole front of the Meuse and at Moulainville, the enemy everywhere using “weeping” shells. At Eparges, a small German attack failed.
