MR MASSEY AND THE LADIES.
AN AMUSING DEPUTATION. A deputation of ladies went to st Mr Mrssey on Saturday morning i put before him their anti-conscriptio views, which ; hey did without convim ing him of the error of the Goverr nient ways.
Mrs'Hulbcrt spoke about the sanit; fcion of the camps, in regard to whir she stated an improvement was need ctl. Mr Massoy: Have you seen them Mrs Hulbert: No, but I know some one who has. Mr Massoy: I will give you a pas any day that you like to visit tlr I camps. | Mrs Hulbert: Will you give me I free railway pass? j Mr Massey: Yes, I will pay the Far' out of my own pocket. ■ Mrs Hulbert: And will you let me po'V» about as much as I like at tin camps? Mr Massey: Yes, as much as you iike. (Laughter). Mrs Hulbert: And may I take a friend ? Mr Massey: Yes. i fn reply to a jocular question from another member of the deputation as to whether he was prepared to go to the front, Mr Massey said, "Yes, 1 am quite willing to go." (Loud laughter and applause). A lady : And J will go as a nurse. Mr Massey: If I i-'.*> to the front 1 Will make this condition, that if J get wounded I shall have an opportunity o.f choosing my own nurse. "Now took at me," said another buxom lady in endeavoring to clinch an argument. "Well." said Mr Massey, smilingly, "I have been looking at you for some time with a great deal of admiration." (Loud laughter). "Oil, I forgot you were an Irish; man, Mr Massfey," was the lady's rejoinder. In response to a parting suggestion f nm) the ladies that tins* might not be the last occasion upon .which. .. they would wait upon the Prime Minister.
