HYDE BY-ELECTION. [United Few* Association.] (Received 11.15 a.m.) London, March 30. At the Hyde (Cheshire) by-election, Mr Jacobsen (Coalitionist) polled 4059, aijd Mr Davies (Independent) 3215. Mr Davies’ main plank was opposition to the liquor restrictions. Mr Neilson, the sitting member, has been for a long time in America, and he resigned, disagreeing with the Government’s war policy. BUDGET PROMISED ON TUESDAY. (Received 1-10 p.m.) London, March 30. The Budget will be introduced in the House of Commons on Tuesday. RELIEF FOR THE BELGIANS. (Received 1.10 p.m.) London, March 30.
Lord Robert Cecil, in the House of Commons, said the Government had decided to allow the Belgian Relief Commission to charter the German ships in Neutral ports on condition that Germany did noh benefit. The Government intended to continue facilities to the'Commission as long as it maintained proper arrangements with the German authorities.
THE CLYDE STRIKE. MALCONTENTS BROKE EVERY BARCAIN. (Received 1.55 p.m.) London, March •30. Mr Llpyd George, in the House of Commons, said every effort bad been made for months past to secure a settlement of the Clyde disputes, but the malcontents had broken every bargain. He announced that Mr Henderson was going to Clyde to put the Government’s case before the strikers. He added that the union leaders had been perfectly loyal to the Crown. PRINCE OF SERBIA IN LONDON.
