Six cases of infantile paralysis were notified at Auckland to-day (states the Press Association). The total for the city and country is 147, making an increase for the week of fifty.
In the report of Thursday's bowling games on the local green,the names of one rink were misread, and Reeve appeared in place of Riera and Bell instead of Betts.
A lad named Ivan Ireland, while riding round the corner of Broadway and Penton Street this afternoon, came into collision with a cart, the shaft of which caught his leg and badly gashed it, tearing the muscles very severely. The sufferer was not thrown from his horse, but on reaching the office of the Stratford Post (where he is employed as a runner), Ireland collapsed. Dr. Paget was called and came immediately, and after temporarily dressing the wound, kindly drove the boy to the Stratford Hospital in his own car, as it was found necessary to put in several stitches and receive other attention Dr. Steven being communicated with in the meanthre.
The Mayor (Mr J. W. Boon) is in receipt of a bunch of correspondence and printed matter from the Recruiting Board, which it is his intention to lay oh the Council table for discussion at the meeting of the Council on Monday night. Some important statements in the correspondence relate to matters, which, under the Defence Regulations, the Press are debarred .from publishing, to the wish of the authorities in this.respect, it is well to remember that in this way the Press has done very much towards recruiting only here; but in -other parts of the Empire/ ever, members of the Council'"might with' carefully read, itfark learn, and inwardly digest the contents of the, Mayor's'budget on recruiting, and be in a position to thresh out the pros and cons of a proposal of the Mayor to further the co-operation of the borough and county in the matter.
The annual meeting of the Domain Board was held yesterday. Messrs P. Thomson, R. McK. Morison ( and T. H. Penn. Mr Morison was voted to the chair. The \ for the year 1915, showing a balance of £34 9s 4d, was read and adopted. On'the motion of Mr Percy Thomson, seconded by -Mr Penn, Mr G. N. Curtis was elected chairman for toe ensuing year. Mr T. .1). Wilson was giaiited uermissioti to cut coiUst'oot on King Edward Park for 10s. Permission was granted the Stratford Croquet and Park Tennis Club to bold a garden fete in Victoria Park on Thursday next, and to make a churge at the gates. Permission was granted Mr J. Fawkner to transfer a section on the Warwick oßad to the Farmers' Organisation, ilawera.
