■ INFLUENCE OF RECENT SUCCESSES. [United Press Association.] ' London, February 10. 1 r; 7 The newspapers, discussing the German pressure on Roumania, give prominence to the Russian capture ol Uscieczka and then crossing to the west of the Dneister. The Russians have been for a considerable time near a village which is forty miles north of Gzernovitz. The Morning Post’s military correspondent states that Russia’s possession of the Dneister makes the Austrian position at Bukovina untenable. He adds: “The valley of the Pruth, owing to the absence of natural obstacles, offers the best line of advance. If the Russians break through in Bukovina the Austro-German defences in Galicia will be out-flanked and probably abandoned.” DESTRUCTION OF RUSSIAN CHURCHES. London, February 9. The Daily News correspondent at Petrograd says that the Germans are ystematically bombarding and destroy:ng churches on the whole front, fear;ng that the Russians will use them as observation posts. Services are held In peasants’ huts.
