VERY SUCCESSFUL SALE. • ~ , y AN INTERESTING OCCASION. There war a large attendance at Newton King’s yards this afternoon, when the patriotic auction sale, organised by "the Stratford Associated Anctiiieers’ Association and the Patriotic Committee was conducted. Owing to the inclemency of the weather the cattle acre sold under cover. Air H. F. Abraham, chairman of tlie Auctioneers’ Association, expressed bis thanks to tile farmers and others who had donated stock for the sale. He said it did one’s eyes good to look around the pens; the cattle were all good stuff, not culls. He also thanked all who had helped to make the sale what it was. He could not thank all who had helped personally, hut great thanks are due to the drovers who had done the work free of cost. It had been said that the farming community had not done their share of contributing to the war funds, but after the sale he was sure that this could not be said. Mr Abraham said it was a straight out sale, and the funds derived therefrom were for the Sick and Wounded Soldiers’ Fund; to Ins mind the most deserving of all. Mr Abraham then asked Mr Newton King to commence the sale.

Mr King, who started on , the work of selling as'soon as he took the inctioneor’s stand, was asked to make i speech, and in reply said the best speech he could make was to tell those present to hid away. He said it was ike bringing out an old racehorse af:er it had bhen away for twenty years. From the commencement of the sale bidding was very brisk, and in most -ases the cattle brought full market values. Air King, though not an active'auctioneer at the present time, showed Ids audience that aftev Ids long retirement his hand had not lost its cunning in knocking down the -stock to the highest bidder. The auctioneers who conducted the stale were; .Messrs R. G- Cottier, XB. Fletcher, M. Priest, and George Pugh. . Before the commencement ot tlie horse sale, the Mayor (Mr J. M • Boon) on behalf of the Patriotic Con,, ndttee, thanked the Auctioneers Association for inaugurating the sale, and all who had helped to make it success Mr 800,, said that though he could not thank all who had assisted he wished to thank Mr King to. journeying to Stratford and personally conducting the sale.
