STANLEY ROAD FUNCTION.
Our 'conospondeut reports that a very successful social, coimorc and dance was held in the Stanley Road School-room last evening, under the auspices of Mrs. Geo. Songster and Co., the event being most successful both socially and financially, resulting in benefit to the Wounded Soldiers’ Fund to the extent of about £l2. During the evening raffles in connection with, a cake and a tin of ginger nuts were held, and in each case the winners generously handed same back to be auctioned for the benefit of the fund. Mr John Creighton (a coming Knight of the Hammer) ably filled the position of auctioneer, while Mr W. A. Hewitt acted as clerk. The tin of ginger nuts won by Mr Wellington and handed in by him for auction, was sold and re-sold as Billows:—Purchased by Mr Geo. Songster for 3s. W. A. Hewitt (Loan and Mercantile) for os, Geo. Keighley lor -Is Od, finally purchased by W. Wellington at 7s. The cake which was won in the raffle by Mr Johnson, Jr., and handed in by him for auction, was sold and re-sold as follows Purchased by Mr Shaw for Is. F. by ford at Is. J, bow at Is (id, F. Jones at (id. reoffered and purchased by Mrs Saugster at'2s (id, re-offered Geo. Songster at 2s. finally purchased by Mr Redo at IDs. At intervals during the dancing Mr Martin entertained the company in Ins well-known capable manner, bis comic items fairly bringing clown the house, and earning him enthusiastic encores. Miss Ella Songster, sang very prettily “My Ships,” and with her encore number “We’d Better Bide a 'Woe,” the well-known old Scotch air, completely ebarmed and captivated her audience. Mr Creighton contributed the humorous recitation “The AVed<]in’ o’ baebie McGrow.” which was very much appreciated. Miss F. Knox also contributed an item. Miss Ruby Anderson obliged at the piano in supplying dance music, and also acted .together with Miss F. Songster ns accompanist. The ladies supplied elegant baskets of cakes, etc., and the supper provided ■ unis really splendid, and much appreciated. There was a large attendance ■of the public, and dancing was kept up (till the small hours of the morning.
