) MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Stratford 'Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held this morning, when there were present—Messrs J. McAllister (chairman), C. 1). Sole, John Smith, B. McK. Morison, E. Walter, E. Hine, and'J. Christoffel. The Board discussed at some length •a letter from the Auditor-General, Wellington, relating to members' travelling .expenses. Mr Sole said that it was remarkable that members of Councils and Boards in the County wero allowed expenses on different scales and that these were passed by the auditor, but when-it came to the Hospital Board, which was doing practically the sanju class of business, the passing of the expenses account was refused. Ml- Walter moved, and Mr Christoffel seconded: "That the secretary write to the Auditor-General, asking him to assess what he thinks a fair amount for actual travelling expenses for the members of the Board in the ( matter in dispute."—Carried. | The Hawera Hospital Board wrote stating tfia't. it had two ambulances for sale on reasonable Mr McAllister said that the Board had no use for an ambulance. Mr Sole remarked: "Send.a recommendation to them' to give the ambulances to the Government." The Matron wrote requesting that gravel be placed on a portion of the yard round the, hospital.—lt was decided that the gravel work be attended to. ' ■ The gardener's report stated that the kitchen garden was i" good or* der, and all the hedges anil'borders had been trimmed.—Adopted. Dr. Steven, medical superintendent, in his report; stated that during last month 17 patients were admitted. 18 discharged, and one died. Fire operations were pet-formed under anaesthetics. Nineteen remained in hospital] at the end of the month. There were no eases in the isolation ward.—Adopted. . The Sanitary Inspector's report was: Two cases of scarlet fever were investigated in Stratford, both of which were isolated at home', and precautions' were taken against the spread of the disease.' One suspected ease of scarlet fever was visited. Toko school was disinfected after an epidemic, of measles.
