SCHOOL CHILDREN AND LIQUOR (Received 9.50 a.m.) Sydney, June 18. Mr Griffith, replying to the Prohibition Party's deputation asking that school children be taught the injurious effect of liquor, said: "ifT was Czar of this country, I would abolish the sale of intoxicants altogether." .Mr. Griffith added that a' text book was being prepared. to meet the request of the deputations. THE KAURI TIMBER CO. (Received 9.50 a.m.) Melbourne, June 18. At the half-yearly meeting of the Kauri Timber Company, the Chairman stated there had been a period of reduced output owing to the fallingoff in the building trade, but there had been signs of an- increase since the beginning of the year, and lie hoped.to be able with the present reduced output to keep the bulk of the plant employed, so as to keep the staff together till'the demand improved. The freight question had been a serious fact in the export business. The directors, after careful consideration, unhesitatingly recommended the payment of the usual interim dividend of eight per cent. per annum. FROZEN MEAT EXPORT. (Received 9.50 a.m.) % Melbourne, Juno 18. The State Gaoinet has appointed a Royal Committee to enquire into the export of frozen meat. MOUNT MORCAN MINE. j *. Brisbane, June IS. There has been valuable developments at the Mount Morgan mine. The drive from the 850-feet level disclosed an additional twenty-two feet of ore, making with the' recent developments sixty-four feet, averaging 9.6(5 dwts of gold, and 2.36 per cent, of copper.
