RADNOR ROAD SCHOOL.

APPLICATION FOR NEW SCHOOL

.At the Taranaki Education Board's meeting yesterday, the committee appointed (Messrs Masters, Mackay and Marfell) reported that it had thoroughly considered the abvisability of erecting a school at Radnor Road, or of opening up' the Derby Road (be•tween the Denbigh and Radnor i Roads). An engineer estimated that (the cost of opening up the road would 'be £3OO. If the work could be done jus the inspectors suggested for £7O to £IOO, and the Department were prepared to grant that sum, the committee thought it would be in the interests of education that the children ! from Radnor School go to the Denjbigh School. It was of the opinion j however, that the work could not be 'done for the amount suggested, and, further, that the Department would not make the grant even if it could, 'and it, therefore recommended that -in application should be made to the Department for a grant to build a school on the Radnor Road. It further pointed out that there were now [twenty-four children on the roll. Again, there are five settlers on the top' of the road who have no children going to school, and these might be replaced with settlers who had children of school age.

Mr. Mackay moved—That the report on the Radnor School he received and adopted, and an application made for a new school. He considered that the present condition was a standing disgrace to the hoard, and the sooner it built a new. school tho better. With regard to the roadway through to the Denbigh Road, it was not of the question. Mr. Marfell seconded, and said that the settlers had tried to get the road put through, but had been unable, and they were not now inclined to do so. The school certainly should ho erected. The motion was then carried.

In reply to Mr. Masters, Inspector Ballantyne said he certainly supported the committee's report, although ho was still of the opinion that the opening of tho road as he had previously suggested was tho best plan.
