AMUSEMENTS.
HENRI FRENCH. The chilled reception accorded this clever perfonueu at' the Jown Hall last night detracted from the full enjoyment of the excellent bill-ot-fare provided. It npiy he mentioned that a crowd of about seventy thought twice about spending anything more than the papular shilling for a show of the description to hand, and remained outside the hall. A beggarly array of empty benches did not, naturally, put the entertainer in the best of humour. References to the position were-made during the evening, Mr French stating that the high rent of the hall £5 prevented him showing at popular prices, and that he was not charged such a high rent in other tqwns. Notwithstanding these facts, he said he would give his performance complete. He was as good as his word, and his feats of juggling, balancing, and impel sonation Were loudly applauded. His exposure of several tricks showed how asy it is to he a conjuror! With the rifle. Mr French proved himself an expert, the William tell act being sufficiently convincing in this respect. Altogether the show was the best of its kind Stratford lias seen. Owing to the unfortunate circumstances which had assailed him, M r I'reach anponneed that lie would not appear to-night.
