TOLL-GATE TALK.
SOME FACTS AND FIGURES.
Though we may dislike the idea ol :i t"H gate in the Stratford County, and quite realise that such an institution is to be deplored" as a revel)inraising machine, when a County Council is at its wits' end to find money for urgently necessary works, it may be forgiven if it looks longingly at the obsolete toll-gate. One very much interested has a record 6? one week's traffic over one County bridge, and the figures are surprising. The record was taken during one of the slackest seasons of the year, there being no racemeetings, public functions of magnitude or holidays during the period noted, which was from April 26th to May 3rd, 1915. The bridge over whica the following traffic passed during the period named is the Te lopo bridge:— .Motor Cars. —S.D., live seaters, i? 5; S.J)., two-seaters, 24; N.P., five-;eao-ers 20; X.P., two-seaters, 15; N.>\, lorry, J; W., five-seaters, 5; T., live'.seaters, 30; 'P., two-seaters, 14; W-A., five-seater, 3; W.G., five-seater, 9; E., five-seater, 14; E., two-seater, 3; H.W., five-seater, 11; H.X.. five-seac er, .11 ; H.X., five-seater, 2; P.M., fiveseater, 1; A., two-seater, 2, W.X.W.. five seater., 2; H.P., five-seater, 2: 1.X.5., fire-seater, 1; C.H., .rive-se.-a----1 er, 2; W.X., five-seater, 4; P. 0., iiv> seater. 2; .M.S., five-seater, 1; H.A., five-seater, 1 ; C.F., five-seater 1; cais whose numbers could not be observedU 5; total, 300, It will be noted that the great r-.'.a jority were cars from other districts.
