PERSONAL.
Captain E. G. Evans, marine superintendent for the Shaw, Savill and Albion line at Wellington for the past thirteen years, died yesterday morning as the result of a paralytic stroke he suffered a day or two ago.
Mr C. Farley has been appointed manager of, the Riverdale Company's dairy factory. Mr Farley was at one time manager of the Kaponga factory, and more recently of a butter and cheese factory at Ruawena, in the north, of Auckland. The Manaia Witness says there were twenty-two applicants from all over the Dominion, many of them being young men. The managership of the Riverdale factory is one of the prize positions of its kind in the Dominion, carrying a salary of £350 a year, with a free house, and other allowances.
Mr Charles Brown, a popular and valuable playing member of the Tukapa Football Club, and a Taranaki representative footballer, was farewelled By a large gathering of members of the club on Saturday night at the Criterion Hotel, New Plymouth, on the eve of his departure for the Treutham camp. Mr James McLeod presided, and several speakers eulogised Mr Brown for his fine spirit on the playing field, and wished him a safe return at the end of the war. MiBrown was the recipient of a purse of sovereigns and a wristlet watch.
