The offices of the Magistrate's Court will be closed on Friday 23rd. inst. (St Cleorge's Day). There was a large gathering at the railway station this morning to give a send-off to the Stratford men who are joining the 6th reinforcements at Trentham camp. Only four men were taken From Stratford, the names being:—.Messrs Maurice and Brian Malciie (Stratford), Allen (Xgaere), and T. M. Winiki (Midhirst). Private Brian Malone was met at Hawera by {me of the staff and was informed that he was not required until 28th, when lie will be promoted to the rank of Sergeant and go forward with the next reinforcements.

A lad named Bowman, about seventeen years of age, had his right arm almost severed below the elbow by a circular saw at the Wanganui Sash and Door Factory to-day, states a Press wire. The Press Association states that the Consolidated Company at Reefton has received a cable from its Loudon office, stating that judgment was given for the Company with all costs in the appeal against the decision in the action, Da\Vd Liman v. the Company. The monthly meeting of the Stratford County Council will be held at the County Offices, Stratford, on Wednesday, 21st April, at 11 a.m. A special meeting, to institute special orders authorising the raising of a loan of £IOO for the construction of part of Pembroke lload West and a loan of £7OO for the canst ruction of part of Aburoa Road West, will also be held. "Sports as usual" is the motto of all games throughout New Zealand, notwithstanding the fact that the war has depleted some of the institutions to a great extent. Football, in particular' is suffering. A meeting of Soccer enthusiasts will be held in Mr I). Butchart's shop this evening to see "bat encouragement will be forthcoming for the present season. Ail interested should attend and •'boost" along the "Soccer" game in Stratford.
