SLICHT PROSPECTS OF SETTLE- | MENT. j United Pkess Association. ■ London. March 20. I Dr. Dillon reports from Rome that the Minister of Education is ascertaining the military status of all professors, teachers and educational employees in Italy, and also what beds the' schools and colleges are capable of containing. It is stated that several German and Austrian consuls are removing their archives. Austria is hastily strengthening the defences of Trentino, and employing Russian prisoners and Galician refugees to remove snow from the highlands. Much artillery and ammunition is proceeding to the mountain forts, and new batteries are being erected. Austria appears to be willing to cede Trentino and territory to the river Isonzo, but refuses to guarantee political and economic treatment of Italian nationals elsewhere. Italy persists in its immediate cession, but Austria favors postponing the matter till after the war. The prospects of settlement are slight.
CERMAN ACENT& AT WORK. Paris, March 20. German agents, disguised as workmen, were arrested in Italy endeavouring to blow up a railway tunnel near Genoa, in order to hinder mobilisation.
