PROPOSED TRAMWAY FOR ROAD EXTENSION. TO BE AVAILABLE THIS WINTER (From Friday's Advocate). Mr J. H. Lyon (Chairmau of tho Ohura County Council) has received the following letter from the Prime Mininster:—"With reference to your recent personal request for an extension of the service road toward.-; Matiere: lam now informed by the Hon. the Minister of Public Works that the road between Okahukura and Matiere is metalled within three mik of Ma tiere. The cost of metalling these" three- miles is estimated as follows:—With burnt papa, £5016, with pumice, £4092. Seeing that when the railway is finished good metal could be carried at a third of the above cost, it would be a waste of, money to metal the three miles with papa or pumice, which would only last about two years. I shall be glad to have an expression of opinion on this proposal and to hear whether you think it will serve the purpose you have in view." Messrs Cameron and Bagust, contractors, have pierced the tunnel at the 16-mile.

His leg was broken, and he received a severe wound at the back of the thigh. He was sent to Tanmarunui Hospital in a trap, but died a few minutes after admission. The coroner, after an enquiry, decided that no blame was attachable to anyone.
