HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT.

High Commissioner’s cable, February 28th: — Note : Quotations unless otherwise specified are average market prices on spot. Tlxe meat market is firm with an upward tendency for all descriptions owing to the short supply at market, in consequence of the delay in discharging. Mutton: Fair demand North Island sad, ordinary quality sifd, ewes 5 7-16 d. Lamb.—There is a good demand for all lamb. Oother than Canterbury 7jd, for best quality (second grade) 7Ed.. Beef: Good demand continues. Hindquarters 6 9-16 d, forequarters 6 l-16d, chilled hindquarters 7sd, forequarters 6Jd. I The butter market is steady, and • prces were firmer at the close. Danish j 130 s to 1365, New Zealand is in good demand with market steadier, prices 128 s to 130 s, exceptionally .1325, unsalted 132 s to 1345, Australian 126 s to 130 s, Siberian 122 s to 1245, Argentine 126 s to 130 s.

The cheese market is steady. Canadian white and colored 89s to 925, New Zealand in good demand, with market,firmer. White and colored 8/s to 89s. English market remains firm at 94s to 100 s, Australian white and colored 85s to 87s, United States 82s to 85s.

The hemp market is not quite so firm; there is less demand, and holders are not anxious to sell. New Zealand good—fair grade £3l? fair grade £29, fair current Manila £35, forward shipments spiling at the same prices. The output from Manila for the week was 30,000 bales.

The wool market is strong, and all stocks are advancing. Americans are buying merinos freely. Estimated valuep. qf fine crossbreds (all grades) 15Jd to 17*d, medium crossbreds (all grades) 14£d to 16£d, coarse crossbreds (all grades) 13£d to 15|d, superior merinos 13£d to 15d, medium merinos lid to 13d, inferior merinos 9d to 10^d. Tbe wheat market is slightly weaker, with less demand for forward delivery .owing to the prospect of the Dardanelles bombardment releasing Russian supplies. T'
