VALEDICTORY.

Last night, in the schoolroom at the rear of the Broadway Methodist Church, a very enjoyable evening was spent, the occasion being a farewell social to Mr R. H. Xicholls. During his stay of fourteen months in Stratford Mr Nicholls has been one of the most sincere and consistent workers in the church. Especially in the junior department has he worked hard. As Superintendent, he has practically been responsible for organising and maintaining what is now a flourishing junior Endeavour Society. The Rev. A. Reader, on behalf of the church members, in presenting Mr Xicholls with a travelling rug, conveyed to him the good wishes of his many friends for his future happiness in Auckland.

Mr Xicholls, in responding, said that he was sorry to leave those friends with whom he had spent so many happy times. He thanked the parents of the children and other friends who had assisted him to carry on the work to which ho had been attached.

During the evening solos were sung by Miss Birdie Foster, Miss M. Hopkins, Mrs J. Richards, Rev. A. Reader, and .Mr C. Russ. Recitations were given by Miss Xita Riera and Mr Xicholls. A violin solo was nicely played by Miss F. McAllister.' Suppgr was kindly supplied in good style by the ladies, and after games and o competition, a happy evening was brought to a close, the Rev. Reader pronouncing the Benediction. At Mr Xicholls’ final meeting with the junior Endeavourers, last Sunday morning, the boys and girls took the opportunity of presenting him with a Methodist hymn book, suitably inscribed, as a token of their esteem and love for him; also wishing him God speed in his new sphere of labour.
