TWENTY MILES OF FIRE.
Per Press Association. Blenheim, January 30. >,A grass lire broke out in the Awatere district yesterday, and covered a large extent of country, and is spreading rapidly. A large area of the Upton Downs property was incinerated, the homestead being saved with difficulty. Despite all efforts, the fire spread over the Medway district, and a number of settlers lost heavily by the destruction of sheep pastures. It is reported this afternoon that the fire is spreading in a westerly direction, having travelled a distance of twenty miles.
