FIGHTING NEAR THE CANAL. Unitid Press Association. Cairo, January 30. The Turks occupy Katia with outposts at Bireldeizar, twelve miles nearer the canal; also ‘outposts at Moyahsrab, 25 miles eastward of the Bitter Lakes, and Birmabeiuk, ten miles eastward of Suez. The British post eastward of Kantara beat off a reconnoitring party. The Turks left four dead. Our losses were an Indian officer, an Indian killed, and five Ghurkas wounded. A French pilot and Britisn observer, who were obliged to 'eave their hydroaeroplane in the desert, when returning afoot in the darkness were shot dead by -a British patrol, being mistaken for the enenjy. The Turks attacked Kubn, a post near Suez, but were easily repulsed.

The Turks withdrew from several advance posts owing to fright caused by aeroplane bombs.

BRUSHES WITH TURKS.' NO SERIOUS ATTACK ON CANAL ANTICIPATED. (Received 8.25 a.m.) London, January 31. The Times’ Cairo correspondent says: “The recent brushes with the Turkish advance party are likely to prove a prelude to further unimportant encounters with small bodies of the enemy, who pushes forward to as certain the strength of our positions. So far, there is proof of the enemy’s main force having been committed to an advance across Sinai Peninsula against the Canal defences. Experts consider it impossible that a large body of troops can move against Suez and the Bitter Lakes section of our position by the Maan-Nokhal route. Any attack on this line would be simply a diversion.”
