SCENE IN THE BACKYARD.
The scene in the yard at the back of the premises seems to point to the fact that the work was done by men who were not new to the business. The door of the safe had been skilfully blowi# off, the safe having been placed in a hole about two feet deep, to make which a long-handled shovel had been ‘borrowed’ 4 ’ from the borough stores in Fenton Street, which is close by. The books belonging to the firm were recovered intact.
