OFFICIAL. KAISER’S CONDITION SERIOUS. The High Commissioner reports under date London, December 9, 7.55 p.m., that it is unofficially announced the Kaiser’s conditions is serious.
The High Commissioner , reports from London, on 9th December at 7.55 p.m.:—French artillery in the Argunne secured appreciable gains. Progress was made all along the Argonne front and on tfle heights of the -Meuse. To the south-east of Cracow a new battle developed as the result of Austro-Gerrnan attempts to outflank the Russian left wing.
GENERAL BEYERS. Brigadier-General Beyers, news of whose death by drowning is announced, was one of the old, rugged typo of Boer farmer, and recently resigned the post of Commandant-General of the Citizen Forces of the Union of South Africa. He was Speaker of the Transvaal Legislative * Assembly. From a private in the South African war lie rose to be Assistant Command-ant-General in Northern Transvaal District. During the big strike last year the great thoroughness and efficiency with which he controlled the situation saved South Africa from what had for some days threatened to be a serious chapter in her history.
