LICENSING QUESTION.

PROHIBITION RALLY.

Per Press Association.

Wellington, November 28

I The Prohibition Party held a crowded meeting in the Town Hall last night. A large portion of the audience was opposed to the movement and demonstrated loudly against the speakers. At one stage of. the proceedings the Mayor had to call the police to the stage. Mr Atkinson, who received best hearing, said the Trade had stated that Lord Kitchener had not advised the troops to abstain from liquor, and it would he I well to quote his exact words. He then read a statement, which included: "Keep constantly on guard 'against any excess in this new exj perience; you may find temptations j both in wine and women ; you must entirely resist both temptations." Mr 'Atkinson averred that the Trade had faked Lord Kitchener's message. A motion declaring the necessity of voting no-license and Dominion prohibition was moved, and the chairman re-

fused to accept an amendment, whereupon the. representatives of the Moderate Party left the hall in a body. The motion was then put and declared carried unanimously.
